Elwood Tillman Mai, 63, died April 3, 2005 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born July 23, 1941, in Russell, the son of Emil Raymond and Regina Windholtz Mai. He married Doris E. McCormick Johnson on Aug. 19, 1974, at Key West, Fla. She died Dec. 13, 2000. He married Kathleen E. Wilkerson Plum on Dec. 18, 2004, at Russell. He was an independent contractor for the U.S. Postal Service. He had been a resident of Great Bend for 12 years, coming from Salina. He was a life member of the Amer. Legion and the VFW. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1979 at the rank of Chief.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen E. Mai of the home; two sons, E.T. Mai of Hays and Stephen E. Mai of Great Bend; two daughters, Jana Matthes of Des Moines, Iowa, and Skye N. Mai of the home; three step-sons, William Johnson, Jr. of Stuart, Va., L.B. Johnson of Swan Quarter, N.C., and Edward R. Johnson of Great Bend; two step-daughters, Sarina L. Johnson of Salina and Jennifer L. Gansh of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Regina D. Mai of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six step-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Central Baptist Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Gordon E. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at the Russell Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Morgan Leigh Mai Medical Expense Fund in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
